NorwY is an abusive and horrible asshole

So! Many people think Norway is abusive, cold, emotionless, right?
Wrong.
If you think about it, most of the characters are shaped by the fandom rather than the actual anime/manga themselves and Norway is a prime example of this.
If you take a closer look within the official comic, Norway is actually not as one may think. Sure, he is pretty emotionless and can be somewhat cold occasionally but his quietness is mainly due to the fact that he is painfully shy around strangers as stated by Himaruya. Norway is quite quiet to begin with so this only adds to it and he gets annoyed at Denmark because he talks too loudly and can be quite obnoxious (he yanked his tie to shut him up). If you notice in the Japanese subbed rather than the dubbed his voice is very soft and quiet, almost like he is in a dream-like state.
If you look even closer you can see some more in depth characteristics of Norway. He smiles fairly frequently; mostly at his adorable little brother whom he loves to pieces. He’s also, in almost every single canon art of him, looking at Denmark. Always. Even though he tires of Denmark calling them “best friends” he has a strong connection with the Dane and is often seen with him, meaning he trusts to be around Denmark.
He’s also shown to be quite appreciative of Denmark as seen in a few of his quotes, telling him not to worry about him and even getting a little jealous when some girls were talking to the Dane. Norway can also have a pretty good sense of humour which can be seen in some of his dialogue, not to mention the fact that he sees magical creatures and thinks some of them are cute.
Let’s not forget the time he dressed up in a fox costume and was dancing to “What does the Fox say?”.
See- there is so much character to Norway which you have to inspect closely. He’s not all that he’s shaped out to be and honestly doesn’t have a defined character. But he’s absolutely nothing like an emotionless, uncaring, asshole. He cares and worries for his brother and even Denmark and is, in all fairness, quite a kind and playful character if we look at him separate from the fandom.
Yes, Norway is a very strange character indeed…
